Charles “Curly” Rogers, 79, of Independence, MO passed away Sunday, December 13, 2015. A visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00pm on Sunday, December 20th. A graveside service will be held at 9:30am Monday, December 21st at Mt. Washington Cemetery, Independence, MO with full honors.
Curly was born January 8, 1936 in Chillicothe, OK to Charlie Chester and Goldie (Larimore) Rogers. He graduated from Will Rogers H.S. in Tulsa before enlisting in the Marines. He proudly served his county from 1956-58. He married his beloved Opal (Shelton) in 1962. Together they raised two children. They later moved to Independence where he worked for ARMCO Steel as a fork lift driver. Curly was a reserved man who provided well for his wife and children. They remember him for his quiet demeanor, hard working attitude, and good sense of humor. He is loved and will be missed.
Survivors include daughter, Joyce Winningham (Ted) of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren Mechelle McConnell (Terry); great grandchildren, Erica and Brooke Downing; brother, Doil Rogers (Penny) of Lebanon, MO; and sister Lilly Albrecht of Millville, UT; and numerous nieces and a special nephew, Charlie Marks who will all miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by brother, Robert McQuerry; sister, Betty Schubert; son, Charles Ashing; and grandson, Danial Winningham.
