George Rogers, 89, of Independence, MO, went home to the loving arms of his Heavenly Father on August 3, 2014. He died peacefully at John Knox Village Care Hospice in Lee’s Summit, MO. George was born in Fulton, MO and moved to the Independence area at the age of two. He returned to Independence at the end of WWII after serving as a radio communications officer with the 147th Army Airways Communications, a branch of the 7th Air Force. He remained a resident of Independence throughout most of his later life. George was a member of Sycamore Hills Baptist Church at the time of his death. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Dolly Rogers; his first wife, Lelia M. Rogers; sister, Genevieve Lundsford Snitz; and one brother, Francis Rogers. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Lila L. Rogers, of the home. In 1974, George and his family established the Rogers Music Studio in Independence, MO. It still bears the family name. George was a loving father of four children, F. Philip Rogers and wife Pam, Dennis G. Rogers and wife Susan, Kevin L. Rogers and wife Tracy, and one daughter, Pamela J. Sandy. He was a proud grandfather of 16 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. A visitation will be held from 1-2:00 p.m. followed by a 2:00 p.m. memorial service on Sunday, August 17, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO.
