Michael “Mike” Rogers, 58, passed away on June 27, 2016. Family will greet friends from 9-10am Saturday, July 2, with memorial service at 10am, both at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St. in Independence, MO. Contributions may be made to the ALS Association in his memory.
Mike was born on November 17, 1957, son of Arlayne Ella Dawes Rogers, in Castorville, California. He moved to Collinsville, Oklahoma with his family at the age of 9; he later moved to Houston, Texas when he was in his early twenties. For the past several years, he lived in Sedalia and Green Ridge, Missouri. Mike ran heavy equipment for a number of years, then worked for the Laborers Union Local 264 for 10 years. He later joined the Carpenter’s Union Local 1127 and was employed with Firebaugh for 11 years and Allied for 8 years. He met Karen Habbena in July 2007 at a horseshoe tournament, and they married three years later. He loved to ride his Harley, hunt, fish, and listen to country and blues music. He loved spending time with his family and friends, and will be affectionately remembered for having no filter, and always saying what he thought.
Mike is survived by his wife, Karen Rogers; son, Larry Rogers; step-children, Zach (Savannah) Fitzwater, Tony Poterbin, and Rose Hesse; grandchildren, Alan, Mason, and Gracie Rogers; and sisters Bonnie Welch and Vickie Burdick.
