Adele Ione (Holmes) Rohr passed away peacefully March 16th, 2021 at the age of 84, and into the arms of her Loving Savior Jesus Christ. She was at home surrounded by her cherished family and friends.
During her life, Adele was a loving, caring, and giving person. Her favorite times were when she was spending time laughing and playing cards with her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Adele was born to Leroy and Vera (Carter) Holmes on November 30th, 1936 in Leroy, Kansas. She married her high school sweetheart, Don Rohr, on September 1, 1956, and they raised four children. Adele generously gave her time and effort to serve others and her community in addition to her family. Adele loved sewing, scrapbooking, and crafts of all kinds. She made clothes to send to young girls in need in Africa, decorated for the weddings of each of her grandchildren, and gifted her great-granddaughters with unique and special doll clothes. To her family’s great delight, she was a wonderful cook and baker.
Adele was a long-time dedicated member of First United Methodist Church, where she enthusiastically led efforts to reach out to and support other church members and families and lovingly decorated the church for every season and holiday.
In addition to raising her children, she worked for the Independence School District in food services and Standard State Bank.
Adele was preceded in death by her husband, Don; daughter, Glenda Callicott; great-granddaughter Grace Ellen Howard; parents, Leroy and Vera; and siblings, Jesse Holmes and Leanna Clem.
Adele is survived by her three sons and their wives, Doug and Nancy of Saint Joseph, Dean and Kim of Lee’s Summit, and Dennis and Susie of Independence; her brother Warren Holmes of Manhattan, KS; twelve grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A visitation will take place from 6:00pm to 8:00pm on Friday March 19th at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO. A celebration of life will take place at 10:00 am on Saturday March 20th at Independence First United Methodist Church, 400 W. Maple Street, Independence, MO 64050, and a graveside service will follow at Mount Washington Cemetery.
