Leroy J. Rohs, 73, a resident of Independence, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 25, 2019. Leroy was born October 13, 1945 in Quincy, Illinois to Glenn J. Rohs and Lucille Logan Rohs of LaGrange, MO.
Leroy attended LaGrange public schools and graduated from LaGrange High. After high school, he attended Culver Stockton College and Northeast Missouri State Teachers’ College and graduated with a Bachelors degree in accounting in 1968.
Leroy was active in the college’s marching and concert bands as part of the percussion section. While attending Northeast MO State Teachers’ College, he met his future wife, Shirley Lynn Doss of Baring, MO. They were married in Baring, MO on May 26, 1968. Leroy and Shirley moved to Independence, MO and Leroy started his career at the USDA. Leroy spent his entire career (32 years) at the USDA and retired in January 2001.
Leroy was an active member of First Baptist Church of Independence, Lee Summit Baptist Church, and most recently, The Gathering Baptist Church of Independence on Noland Road.
Leroy was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 50 years, as well as a member of the Ararat Shrines of Kansas City and an active member of the Shrines’ Antique Auto Club. He was also a member of the Heart of America Model A Ford Club and the Plain Ol’ A’s Model A Club. During his 20 years of retirement, Leroy enjoyed traveling to warm weather, Model A touring trips, and spending time with family.
Leroy is survived by his wife of 50 years, Shirley Rohs; three sons Kelly (Donna) of Springfield, MO, Tony (Karen) of Elk River, MN, and Cory (Jovanna) of Oak Grove, MO; and four grandchildren: Arabelle, James, Madelynn, and Cora.
The family will receive friends and family at 11:00 a.m. April 27, 2019 with a Celebration of Life at noon. Both will be held at The Gathering Baptist Church, 4505 S. Noland Road, Independence, MO. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made in Leroy’s honor to The Gathering Baptist Church or the Kansas City Ararat Shrine Cornerstone Fund.
