Douglas Allen "Doug" Rollins

Douglas Allen Rollins, 71, of independence MO, went to meet his Lord and Savior on March 1, 2022 from his temporary residence in Belton MO, following an aggressive illness. He was born on October 17, 1950 in Joliet IL. and was the first child of Carl and Mary Lou (Anderson) Rollins.
Doug graduated from Grandview High School class of 1968, then went on to study at UMKC eventually by graduating with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri.
Douglas married three times, the second to Pamela Bossert of Blue Springs MO, producing his lifelong pride and joy his daughter, Lacy Danielle (Rollins) Adkins in 1983. On August 3, 2002 he married Jeanne (Shamblin-Richardson), Winter Park FL, gaining one stepdaughter Megan (Richardson) Dykeman.
Following college he joined his father and stepmother Joy working at Bendex, after which he shifted over to Southwestern Bell beginning on the line and moving up to an Account Manager, retiring in 1998. At that time, he teamed up with a few other retirees to establish the upgraded communication needs for the cities of Kearney and Platte City, opening EXOP of Missouri, where he remained as the switch engineer until retiring for the final time in 2017.
Doug grew up in the Methodist Church, enjoyed going to Lake of the Ozarks, fishing and rebuilding, and later collecting, classic Corvettes, leading him to be involved in the Bass Pro Club and various car clubs. He was also a Life Member of the Raytown Optimist Club and the Optimist Club of Intercity Sugar Creek, rising to the rank of Lt Governor.
Family always came first and Doug, along with his late brother David spent many years volunteering with the youth riding club, Rodeo Kids, supporting his niece and daughters and their horses. He loved every minute and said he would do it again if he could. He and Jeanne had many travels planned for their retirement years but were cut short after one Winter in Florida dues to illnesses.
Doug is survived by wife Jeanne of almost 20 years living in Independence with their border collies, Panda (passed Dec 2020) and Bear, and is now residing in Belton, MO. One daughter Lacy and her husband Steven Adkins of Blue Springs and one stepdaughter Megan and her husband Marc Dykeman of Independence. Doug adored his five grandchildren: Chance Allee 18, Damon Zade Adkins 9, Zia Grace Adkins 4 (all from Blue Springs), Haile Dykeman 18, Taelor Dykeman 13 (of Independence). He was also survived by his sister Leeca Rollins of Grandview, a niece Erica (Rollins) Cheney of Harrisonville, a nephew Dustin Rollins of Lees Summit and his Stepmother Joy Rollins of Camdenton, and a very large extended family. Doug used to say, "the only steps in this family, are on the porch,” and he lived his life that way.
Douglas was preceded in death by his parents Carl (Pete) Rollins, Raymore, and his mother Mary Lou Rollins, Grandview. A younger brother, David Lee Rollins, Lees Summit and his beloved niece Saylor Johnson, Harrisonville.
Visitation and service will be on March 11, 2022 at Carson Speaks Chapel, located at 1501 W Lexington Avenue, Independence MO 64052. Visitation will begin at 2 PM, followed by a service at 3 PM. Doug's ashes, along with those of his wife, at her time, and his loyal bestie Panda, will be interned at the family cemetery at a later date.
