Joyce Kay (Sartin) Rose, 79, Buckner, MO, slipped peacefully from this life into Heaven’s Glory on Wednesday, January 23, 2019. Joyce was born to Frank (Pete) and Dorothy Sartin on September 23, 1939, in McCune, KS. Joyce spent her childhood on the family farm in McCune where she spent many happy days learning to cook on a wood stove and playing with family and friends when they came to visit. Joyce attended McCune Country Day School and graduated from McCune High School in 1957. On October 20, 1957, Joyce married Harry D. Rose, Jr. and was blessed with two children, Bryan D. Rose and Brenda K. (Rose) Pearson. Joyce was first and foremost, Bryan and Brenda’s mom and spent many hours supporting their endeavors. Joyce could always be found at Brenda’s sports activities or watching Bryan get covered in mud riding his dirt bike in the back pasture.
Joyce and Harry settled in Girard, KS where Joyce did many things to contribute to the household. Her favorite and most cherished “job” was running a licensed child care center from her home. She provided many hours of fun and interesting activities for her “children”. She was still in touch with many of the children she cared for up to the time of her death. Joyce served as Secretary to the Dean of Continuing Studies at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, KS; Manager of the Super 8 Motel in Pittsburg, KS; Office Manager of Wesley House in Pittsburg, KS; and most recently Administrative Assistant/Financial Secretary at First Baptist Church, Buckner, MO.
Joyce was always full of enthusiasm for whatever she took on. She served many hours teaching children the Word of God at United Chapel Church in McCune and for the past 16 years at First Baptist in Buckner. She also enjoyed participating in many church activities, Red Hatters and loved going on cruises organized by Pastor Doug at First Baptist.
One of Joyce’s proudest accomplishments was obtaining her Bachelor’s Degree from Pittsburg State University at the age of 61.
Joyce is preceded in death by her husband, Harry, her parents and her brother, Larry Sartin. She is survived by her son Bryan (Carla) Rose, Buckner, MO; her daughter Brenda (Mark) Pearson, Walnut Grove, MO; Grandchildren Michael Rose, Katie (Sean) Dougherty, Joseph Pearson, Abby (Andrew) Zeller, Andrew (Renee) Pearson, Adam (Alisha) Pearson and Lydia Pearson, four great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Celebration of Life service will be held for Joyce on Saturday, January 26 at 11:00 am (no visitation prior) at First Baptist Church, 131 S. Hudson, Buckner, MO. In lieu of flowers, Joyce has requested that contributions be made directly to First Baptist Church or SonShine Preschool, in care of First Baptist Church, Buckner.
