William J. Rounds, 81, of Independence, MO passed away Saturday, August 28, 2004 at The Groves. A memorial service will be 1:30 pm Thursday, September 2nd in the Community Room at The Groves. In lieu of flowers contributions are suggested to Outreach International or John Knox Hospice. Mr. Rounds was born January 6, 1923 in Deloit, IA to William H. and Mary Hansen Rounds. He was a veteran of WW II, serving as Sergeant in the Army Air Force in India and China. He took early retirement from the US Postal Service as Assistant to the Postmaster at Hamilton, MO. He was very active in the Community of Christ, serving as a pastor for 20 years in six different congregations. He also served in the Far West Stake Presidency, Stake Bishopric, in numerous youth camps, and other responsibilities for many years. Because of failing health he was superannuated in 1994 having served as Evangelist the last ten years. Mr. Rounds is survived by his wife, Dora Peterson Rounds; sons, Paul Rounds and wife Susan of Bonner Springs, KS, and John Rounds and wife Linda of Independence, MO; grandchildren, Aimee and Mike Babcock of Independence, MO, John and Isaac Rounds of Kansas City, MO, Travis Rounds of Naperville, IL; great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Alexander, and Taylor Babcock.
