Homer Louis Routh, Jr., 86 of Independence, MO passed away Friday, January 28, 2022 at his residence. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 5, 2022 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Burial with full military honors will follow in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Friday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Homer was born November 17, 1935 in Plato, MO to Homer L. and Zilpha (Stockton) Routh, Sr. and has been a longtime area resident graduating from Argentine High School in Kansas City, KS and attending Johnson County Community College. He had worked as a loss and damage inspector for railroad companies for several years before retiring. He enjoyed golfing, watching sports, playing guitar, fishing and traveling. He was a member of the Church of Christ. He proudly service in the US Coast Guard from 1954-58. Survivors include; his wife Mickey of the home; a daughter, Kelly Tucker of Kansas City, MO; a sister, Shirley Burks of Lee’s Summit, MO and 2 grandchildren, Lacie Tucker and Steffanie Tucker. He was preceded in death by his parents, 9 siblings and a grandson, Brandon Tucker in 2006.
