Kiers Marie Rowley, 48, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on May 10, 2018. Born to Dennis & Jan Downing on September 10, 1969, Kiers was one of three daughters. She attended Messiah Lutheran School in Independence for elementary and middle school and Truman High School for her secondary years. She went on to further her education by studying music at Simpson College in Indianola, IA and earned her master’s degree in vocal performance from University of Missouri Kansas City. She was married on June 5, 1993 to Steve Rowley. Their marriage was full of love and they enjoyed traveling together. She loved being a music teacher and then dedicated her life to raising her family. They welcomed 3 children, Chandler (19), Conrad (17) and Ella (12). These three blessings were her most treasured gifts on this earth. She loved them fiercely and some of her happiest moments were hearing their laughter echo through the halls of their home. She also enjoyed time with family and friends. Weekends at their family lake house was a tradition since her childhood and she cherished those times. Kiers loved to plant flowers and landscape. She looked forward to spring every year and filling every pot with unique and beautiful flowers. She enjoyed Bible studies throughout her youth and adult life and was always seeking to deepen her love of Jesus.
Kiers loved the Lord! Next to her children, her faith and testimony is her greatest legacy. As a young adult she invested in the lives of hundreds of youth through music and theater. Throughout her cancer journey, she witnessed to countless people and was a spiritual warrior on the front lines of furthering His kingdom of believers. Her powerful ripple effect of defeating the enemy and glorifying God through all situations has been inspiring. Lives have been changed by her fervent love for her God and her bold ability to use Him through every chapter in her book of life, whether it was a storm or a rainbow. She always stayed true to the beautiful novel she called life, each page turning with His fingerprints all over the paper and her declaring God’s presence and meaning in her life.
Other than her husband and children, Kiers is survived by her parents, Dennis & Jan Downing; two sisters, Shea Painter (Steve) and Mecah Falk (Eric); nieces and nephews that loved her dearly; aunts and uncles who helped shape her; many cousins who she loved and a special circle of friends that she adored spending time with.
A service to celebrate Kiers’ life will be held on May 19th at Abundant Life Church in Lee’s Summit. Visitation will be held from 10:00-1:00 with the service beginning at 1:00.
Kiers is now composing the most beautiful music with the choir of angels next to her Creator. She is living out what she spent her life sharing with others, the hope of eternal life. (Arrangements: Speaks Suburban Chapel)
