Roy Manford Carter, a beloved member of his family and community, passed away on November 27, 2024, in Kansas City, Missouri. Born on October 22, 1938, in Jefferson City, Missouri, Roy was a source of warmth and strength to those who knew him.
Roy dedicated much of his professional life to Honeywell, where he worked diligently for 37 years before retiring in 1997. His commitment to hard work was matched only by his loving nature, traits that endeared him to his colleagues and friends throughout his career.
Following his graduation from Lincoln High School, Roy served his country with honor in the United States Air Force from 1957 to 1961. Attaining the rank of E4, he carried forward a legacy of dedication and service that would inspire his loved ones long after his military days were over.
Roy's life was enriched by many proud accomplishments, including the simple joys of watching movies, immersing himself in books, and tending to his yard. These activities not only brought him happiness but also showcased his nurturing spirit. His ability to connect with nature and enjoy life's little moments highlighted the essence of who he was—loving, attentive, and perpetually engaged.
Though he leaves behind a void that will be deeply felt, Roy is survived by his daughter, Rochelle (Robert) Wheeler-Cain; grandchildren, Kareem Abernathy and Raschaundra Abernathy; a host of great-grandchildren; brother, Donnie Davis; nieces, Carmen Byars, and Carla Drisom; great nephews, Jaden and Javon Drisom; many extended family, and dear friends. Each one carries a piece of his heart, memories of laughter, lessons learned, and the love he so freely gave. He is proceeded in death by his beloved wife, Nancy; along with his parents, Theodore Caston Davis, and Bernadine (Ferguson) Carter-Davis.
As family and friends prepare to honor Roy's life and legacy, a visitation will take place on Friday, December 13, 2024, at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, Missouri, 64055, from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Following this, a graveside service will be held at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, Missouri, where he will be laid to rest at 1:00 PM.
In these moments of remembrance, those who loved Roy are invited to share in the celebration of a life well-lived, reflecting on the profound impact he had on each of them. He will be remembered not only for his achievements but for the love that he spread throughout his life—a love that continues to inspire and comfort his family and friends.
