Roy Howard Hilliard III

Roy Howard Hilliard III, 78 years of age, passed away Friday, January 12, 2024, at CenterPoint Medical Center.  Roy was born to Margaret Irene Hilliard (Bittiker) and deceased Father Roy Howard Hilliard II on June 12, 1945, in Independence, MO.  Roy’s mother was pregnant with him, when his father was killed in Italy during World War II.  Roy married Joyce Carol Duncan on June 11, 1994.  They were married until her passing on September 15, 2021. Roy treasured his loving relationship with his stepdaughter, Kelli Lewis and her children Gabrielle and Duncan.

Roy graduated from Van Horn High School in 1963.  He served in the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1968. He worked as a pipe fitter and retired from the Veterans Hospital engineering department. Roy loved the outdoors and enjoyed his time at Truman Lake fishing and hunting.  He was an avid gardener and enjoyed feeding and watching the birds at his home.  He enjoyed his friends and the camaraderie at the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Sugar Creek.  Roy was a very generous and kind person, frequently befriending others and disregarding his own personal needs. 

Roy was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Carol Hilliard (Duncan), mother Margaret Irene (Hilliard) Kimak, stepfather John Kimak and brother Raymond Lee Hilliard and daughter Karen.  He is survived by two brothers Fredrick Michael Kimak and John Wayne Kimak, daughter Brenda Robinson and her children Spenser, Taylor and Avery, Karen’s children Alicia and Aliya Fetterman, stepdaughter Kelli Lewis and her children Gabrielle and Duncan Lewis.  Roy leaves behind an extended family including cousins, nephews, nieces and many friends.

Visitation will be held Thursday, January 18, 2024, from 6:00-8:00 PM, at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E 39^th St S, in Independence, Missouri.  A family memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 19, 2024, with burial immediately following at Mound Grove Cemetery.
