Mary Rose Rozgay

Mary Rose (Vukas) Rozgay, 87, died Friday evening, Nov. 5, 2004 in Independence, Mo. at the home of her daughter, Mary F. Williams, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 am, Tuesday, Nov. 9 at St. Ann�s Catholic Church, 10109 E. Lexington, (Farimount) Independence, Mo.; interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Raytown, Mo. Visitation will be 6 - 8 pm, Monday at Carson-Speaks Midtown Chapel, Winner at Fuller, Indep., Mo. The rosary will begin at 7:30 pm. The family suggests contributions to the Mother Cabrini League (Orphanages), 434 W. Deming Pl., Chicago, IL 60614. Mary was born March 29, 1917 to Mike and Frances M. (Malnar) Vukas, who immigrated from Serbia and Croatia in the early 1900�s. Mary graduated in 1934 from St. Mary�s Academy in Indep., Mo. She later graduated from the Castor School of Cosmetology. In 1938, she married John S. Rozgay in Sugar Creek, Mo. who preceded her in death in 1976. In her early married life, she and her husband John sponsored, coached and managed youth baseball teams in the Sugar Creek and Fairmount areas. Mary was proud of her Serbian-Croatian heritage and participated in Sugar Creek ethnic activities. She was a member of St. Cyril�s Catholic Church in Sugar Creek where she was a member of the Altar Society. In recent years, she was a member of St. Ann�s Catholic Church in Fairmount where she was a member of the Altar Society, Choir, and Rosary Makers. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant brother Steven, older brother U.S. Army Tech. Sgt. Samuel John Vukas, and younger sister Mrs. Anne Vukas Stampfel. She is survived by four children: John M. Rozgay and wife Mary Pamela, Las Vegas, NV; Mary F. Williams and husband Robert C., Indep., Mo.; Stephen J. Rozgay, K.C, Mo.; and Helen J. Rozgay of the home; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends.
