Violet Rutledge, 92, of Independence, MO passed away October 12, 2012. A visitation will be held from 1-2:00 p.m. with a 2:00 p.m. service on Tuesday, October 16, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel. Burial will follow at Mt. Washington Cemetery.
Violet was born September 30, 1920 to Bryan L. and Bessie Florence (Nickell) Shockey in Lineville, IA. She attended Simpson College where she earned a degree in teaching. She later married Ray E. Rutledge, together they raised two children. Violet was a devout Christian who was kind and cared for others. She participated in the prayer ministry and Sunday school at church and extended her assistance to all in need. Violet especially enjoyed her vegetable garden, reading scripture, and producing beautiful cross stitch pictures. She will be missed and forever loved.
Violet is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Cowan and husband Claude of Independence, MO; three grandchildren Ben, John and Shaunna; and seven great grandchildren; and brother, Bobby Rutledge and wife Thelma of Gresham Oregon.
