Who was Joseph Peter Sabella?
He was among 6 siblings of Anna and Frank Sabella.
He always reminisced about his childhood, playing his Trumpet, helping his father build fireplaces for a living. He had an appetite for those huge garlic pickles he would buy from the small neighborhood store in Long Island. “They were the best Dill Pickles!” he would say. “Lots of garlic.”
He played his Trumpet through the years into his service with the Marine Corps, where he played in the band. He served 7 years in the U.S. Military.
After his service, he met our mother, Patricia Helen Beckett while delivering pies. They fell in love and had 3 children, Debra, Joseph and Regina and made their home in Torrance, California.
He faced many horrific obstacles in his life that no one could even imagine taking on for themselves, but through it all, he was strong and courageous.
Joe was very talented with his hands. He was a true artist shown through his Oil paintings, but most of all, his wood carving. He never gave himself enough credit, but everyone knew he had a great talent.
Joe was a humble man, great teacher, patient, always praising his kids and encouraging them to do their best, and if we fell… he would tell us to get back up and try again. He supported his children in everything they wanted to become.
Although he didn’t have much money, he would truly take the coat off his back to give to someone in need.
Who was Joe Sabella?
He was a Grandpa of 5 grandchildren and a Great-Grandpa of 2 great-grandchildren.
He was a man of integrity, a man of patience. He showed us hard work ethics, he was a humble man, quiet man, generous, but most of all, a loving man with a big smile and exuberant laugh, and he will be greatly missed by all. Until then Dad, save a place for us in Heaven and we will see you soon.
