Susan Colleen Saforek, 63 of Lee’s Summit, MO passed away Thursday, October 13, 2016 at her residence. Cremation is planned with a memorial service to be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St. Independence, MO 64055. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m., until service time Tuesday at the chapel. Susan was born January 8, 1953 in Canton, OH and raised in Mt. Pleasant, MI and Des Moines, IA. She graduated from West Des Moines Valley High School in 1971. She later graduated from the University of Iowa in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene. She practiced dental hygiene in Cedar Rapids, IA, Quad Cities and Naperville, IL before moving to Kansas City where she was employed by Suchman and Darnall for 16 years and Kristen Niewald/Lenda Chastain for 13 years. She enjoyed her dental hygiene career and her many wonderful patients. She was involved with the Independence School District school dental screenings program. She was also active with her children's activities including volunteering at school, church youth groups, Bible school and volunteer opportunities at the various churches she attended. She also enjoyed attending and driving to her children’s many sporting events. Some of her favorite activities through the years were boating on the Illinois River, reading, working out, gardening and biking. She took many trips with her good friend, Annette Carter, played Bunko and managed to find a group wherever she lived. She is survived by; son Benjamin; daughter Elizabeth "Libby" both of Lee’s Summit, MO; father Floyd North; and sister Janet of Des Moines, IA; brother Chris and wife Debbie along with their family in the Houston area. Susan is preceded in death by her mother Charlene North and sister Ellen North. She was also close to former sisters in law Lori Breshears of Lee’s Summit and Jan Aamodt of Grand Rapids, MI and their families. Lori was especially supportive and helpful driving to various appointments and a friend to talk to. The family would like to thank everyone for all the support and meals from neighbors and friends, especially Annette Carter for the blessing she was in her selflessly giving support.
