Mary Hollis Salyer, 94, of Independence, MO passed away June 9th, 2020. A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 14th, at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO. An entombment service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 15th at the Mt. Washington Cemetery Mausoleum. Hollis was born May 13, 1926 in Carrollton, MO to Arthur and Laura (Johnson) Jones, and was raised on a farm just outside of Carrollton. She was an accountant at Montgomery Wards and retired in 1984. Hollis enjoyed traveling, antiquing, square dancing and spending time at the Lake of the Ozarks with her family and friends. She was a long-time member of St. Paul’s Methodist Church. Hollis was a member of the Ladies Oriental Shrine (LOS) for over 35 years, where she made lifelong and lasting friendships. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles “Dub” Salyer; daughter, Cheryl Crist; and sister, Peg Horn. Hollis is survived by her son, Roger Salyer (Dott); and granddaughter, Cristi Fortner. She is also survived by other grandchildren, Kamryn, Kanyon, Charli, Jake, Sebastian and Sophia; nieces and nephews, Jan Mammen, Rose Wingate, Cindy Salyer, Mary Linda, Paul, Billy Jim, Barbara, Susie and Jeff Kloeppel, Kent (Christina), Doug (Terry) and Ken (Robin) Horn.
