Elizabeth Sapper, 81 of Independence, MO passed away Mon. Jun 13, 2005
at Regency Care Center. Services will be 2:00 pm, Wed, Jun 15, 2005 at
the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St. Indep. MO with the
visitation being held from 12:30pm until service time. Burial in
Woodlawn Cemetery. Contributions are suggested to the First Christian
Church of Independence 124 S. Pleasant, Independence, MO 64050.
Elizabeth was born, along with her twin sister Virginia Bush, on October
27, 1923 at her parent�s home on Delaware Street in Independence. She
lived in three different homes on Delaware for 68 years before moving to
her present home in Independence. She was preceded in death by her
parents P. D. and Pearle Bush, her twin sister Virginia Bush, and her
brother, Donald Bush. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Carl
H. Sapper, Jr. Elizabeth worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone for
nineteen years until 1961 when she and her husband started Sapper�s
Bridal and Gift Shop on the Independence Square. She retired in 1985 and
they sold the store building. From the years 1961 through 2000 she
served on the following civic and volunteer organizations: The
Independence Uptown Shopping Center, president of the Independence
Square Association, The Salvation Army, first women director of the
Independence Chamber of Commerce, Commissioner of the Land Clearance for
Redevelopment Authority of Independence, Independence Square
Improvements Steering Committee, Independence Citizens Civic and
Cultural Committee, Board member and president of Bingham-Waggoner
Historical Society, Independence Symphony, 1859 Jail and Marshal�s Home,
Harry S Truman Award Commission for the City of Independence. She was
past member of the Soroptimist Club of Raytown, American Business
Women�s Association and the Jackson County Historical Society. Also she
was a member of the Victorian Society of the Vaile Mansion, Friends of
the National Frontier Trails Center, Friends of the Chicago and Alton
Depot and the Bingham-Waggoner Historical Society. Elizabeth enjoyed
dining out in the evening and for many years she and her husband Carl
spent many wonderful times together. In doing so they meet many friends
among the servers, mangers, owners and other employees of the
establishments who made their visits very special. A very special thank
you to those many friends.
