Robert Sauls, 94, of Independence, passed away November 30, 2019. Visitation will be 6-8pm Thursday, December 5, 2019 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Funeral service will be 10 am Friday, December 6, 2019 at the chapel. Burial with full Military Honors will follow at Buckner Hill Cemetery. Robert was born on March 11, 1925 1 of four children born to Robert and Ellen (Goodwin) Sauls in Elon College, NC. Robert lost his father at a very young age, at the age of 16 he joined the United Stated Navy. He was a veteran of WWII obtaining the rank of Coxswain V6. After his discharge from the Navy in 1945, he returned home and went to Auto Mechanic School. As a master mechanic he worked at several of the area car dealerships throughout the years. In 1952 he married the love of his life, Lucille Stallman. They shared 67 wonderful years together. Wanting to add to their family Robert and Lucille started adopting their children. First came Anthony then Annette. To round out the growing family they added twins Matt and Mark. Robert was very involved in all of the children’s activities, including coaching the boys baseball teams. Under his coaching 2 teams brought home the championship first in 1969 and again in 1971. Robert is dearly loved and will be forever missed. Survivors include; wife Lucille Sauls; daughter Annette Chapman; sons Matt and Mark Sauls; sister Wanda Barker; 13 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; a large extended family and many friends. Robert is preceded in death by his parents, brothers Harold and Pete Sauls, son Anthony Sauls in 1999.
