Wilma "Billie� Schlie, 80, of Leawood, KS departed this life on Tuesday June 29, 2004 at her home. She will be deeply missed by all those who loved her, her family and friends. She led a full life in the business world as well as her retirement in Leawood clubs and her church. Billie went to Northwest Business College in Kansas City, then graduated from Smith Business College in Kansas City. Then she joined the Navy in 1941, enlisting in USNRTS-Waves, located at Hunter College in New York, and then sent to Oklahoma A&M for yeoman duties. After that time, she was assigned to Norfolk, VA where she served under the commanding officers of VANTRC-Waves until 1946. Later, she received an Associate�s degree of Arts at K.C. Junior College, while she worked at the Veteran�s VARO and Veteran�s Administration Hospital. Ms. Schlie spent four years at the Data Processing Center in Hines, IL with the Veterans Administrative affairs. During a brief marriage to John Nelson, she lived in Swaziland with his Fulbright grant. Her life took a turn and she then traveled to parts of Africa, Europe and South America. Returning to Kansas City, she rejoined the Federal government as a Computer Programmer in the Department of Agriculture. After retiring, Billie moved to Leawood where she was active in Village Presbyterian Church, Leawood Women�s Club and Leawood Garden Club, of which she served 2 years as President. Billie leaves behind half-sister Mary Smith of Independence, MO; half brother Robert Gee of Portland, OR; niece Marchele Courtney and husband Wayne of Tarrytown, NY; nephew Eric Lynn and wife Melba; niece Cathy Killian; nephew Michael Schlie of Independence, MO; great-niece Andrea and great-nephew Joshua; great-niece Julie Page and husband; great-nephew Gary Schlie; sister-in-law Faye Schlie of Independence, MO. Ms. Schlie was preceded in death by her parents, brother Harley Schlie and half-brother Fred Schlie. Services will be 11:00 am Thursday July 1, 2004 at Village Presbyterian Church, 67th and Mission Road. A reception will be 10-11:00 prior to the time of the service. Burial will be in Mt.
