Carol Schmidt, 77, of Independence, MO went to her heavenly home on Sunday, September 25, 2016. A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 28, 2016 at Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO, 64055. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at the chapel. Carol was born to the late Hobart Dryden and Mary Ellen (Miller) Saunders on May 18, 1939. She not only enjoyed life, she helped everyone around her enjoy life as well. Her life was the happiest when she was with her family. She had a deep faith and loved to sing about Jesus. She was rarely seen without a big, beautiful smile on her face. She was ornery and made people laugh to the very end. Carol is survived by her son Kenny Smith and wife Christine; daughter Wendy Minshall and husband Chris; brothers Delwin Saunders and wife Nada, Wayne Saunders, Charlie Saunders and wife Penny; grandchildren Kelly Owen, Amber and Lucas Junge, Tiffany Copeland, Nicholas Fangrow, Christopher and Becca Fangrow, Amanda Smith and Matthew Smith; great-grandchildren Alexander, Emilee Elizabeth, Abigail, Aiden and Gabe, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was considered “grandma” to more than could possibly be mentioned! She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Wilbern Schmidt; grandson Michael Owen; and her sister Kathy Hemerson. We know that she was graciously welcomed into Heaven by so many who have gone before her, and most importantly, by our ‘incredible God’ that she loved so deeply.
