Eilene E. Schmidt (Lester)

Eilene Schmidt, 92, of Independence, MO passed away March 3, 2019. A graveside memorial service will be held Saturday, June 15, 2019 at Mound Grove Cemetery. Eilene was born October 21, 1926 in Senlac, Saskatchawan, Canada to Loren and Leora LaMoyne (Rowe) Lester. In her late teens, she worked in the Yarrows shipyards, helping with the war effort. In 1964, she immigrated from Saskatchawan to Independence, MO. In 1975, she received an accounting degree from the K.C. Business College. In 1939, she was baptized into the RLDS/Community of Christ Church, and maintained her life-long membership and passion for her Lord. She attended Slover Park and College Park Community of Christ Churches. In her later years, health issues kept her from attending church, though she maintained her strong faith through prayer and reliance on scripture. She was always quick to quote a bible passage at the appropriate time. Her hobbies were knitting baby blankets, and donated them for baby blessings at church. She was preceded in death by two husbands, Lenard Nordli and Gilbert P. Schmidt; two sons, Theodore Nordli and Gilbert L. Schmidt Jr.; three brothers; and two sisters. Eilene is survived by four children, Susan Simpson, Irene Gall, April Moore and husband Gary, David P. Schmidt and wife Jeanie; seven grandchildren, Andrea, Shaunna, Dawn, Joshua, Jeremy and Nathan; many great and great-great grandchildren; and four brothers.
