Kim Schmidt, 46, of Independence, MO peacefully passed away Friday, October 3, 2008 at Centerpoint Medical Center surrounded by her family. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Monday in the chapel. Burial in Brooking Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the United Cerebral Palsy Association. Kim was born June 25, 1962 in Kansas City, MO to George and Ina (Hawkins) Schmidt. She was a special young lady who touched many lives she came into contact with. Miss Schmidt graduated from Truman High School. Kim started working at the VA Hospital as a temp before being hired full-time in September 1984 as a Medical Transcriber. She could type 84 words per minute with only eight fingers. Kim loved to travel and had been to Hawaii twice. She was an inspiration to many! Kim is survived by her father and step-mother George and Julie Schmidt; brother Alan Schmidt and wife Sheryl; two nieces, two nephews; aunts Donna and Kathy; best friend Michelle Steur; and by countless friends and extended family from the VA. She was preceded in death by her mother Ina Schmidt.
