Viola Ruth Schnack

February 8, 1916 — February 6, 2005

Viola Ruth (Carlile) Schnack passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2005, at the age of 88. She was born on February 9, 1919 to George and Ethel Carlile of Logan, Iowa. She was the eldest of five children. She was baptized at the age of eight by her father in the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Viola was a rural schoolteacher until her marriage to Vernard Schnack on March 16, 1941. In June they moved from Iowa to Mound Grove Cemetery in Independence where she was bookkeeper. They moved to Cameron, Missouri in 1944 where they farmed. They later moved into town and she worked at Hollywood Maxwell Garment Factory. They started the Ford Implement Business and ran it for 20 years where Viola was bookkeeper. After selling the business, she became a fulltime homemaker. At the time of her passing, she had been married 63 years.
She was actively involved in her Church. She played the piano and organ for church until two years ago. She was Women�s Leader, Sunday School Teacher, Church School Director, Choir Director, Zion�s League Leader, opened her home for a Book of Morman class, taught at Vacation Church School plus was the official "Storyteller� for children for many years. She supported her husband in his ministry as an Elder. She hosted visiting missionaries and ministers. She always took food to shut ins, those in sorrow, and those who were ill. She opened her home and heart to many during the years. She was a great reader and student of the scriptures and was known for her prayers. She was a member of the South Crysler Restoration Branch of Independence.
She was a wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She took an active part in caring for her family both temporally and spiritually. She is survived by her husband of the home in Independence Vernard M. Schnack, son Garland and wife Eileen Schnack of Independence, daughter Lou Jean (Muff) and husband Duane Mitchell of Gravois Mills, grandchildren Troy and wife Sandy Schnack of Kansas City, Jill and husband Brent Stewart of Blue Springs, Julie and husband Jerry of Independence, Rawlin and wife Sara of Kingsville, and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters, Vera Coffman of Independence, Ilene Sindt of Cameron, Alice Waite of Lee�s Summit, and brother Harold Carlile of Cameron. She will be missed by a host of relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 8, from 7:00- 8:30 PM at Speaks Suburban Funeral Home, 39th Street at 291, in Independence. The funeral service will be at 10:00 AM Wednesday, Feb. 9, at Speaks. Burial will be at Mound Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations will be accepted for Center Place Restoration School of Independence or Tsunami Aid.
