Mary Elza Sprague Scott passed away May 15, 2017. She was born February 1, 1916, in Atchison, Kansas, the eldest child of Harry B. Sprague and Ethel Bayes Sprague. Her parents moved the young family to Independence, Missouri, in the mid-1920’s where she lived the remainder of her life.
Mary’s life reflected her belief in the intrinsic value of all people, finding joy in service to her fellow man.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Paxton Scott, her sister, Kathalea (Kay) Sprague Mesle, and her brother, Harold Sprague. She leaves four children, John Paxton Scott and his wife Aysun of Overland Park, Kansas; Ginger Scott Hendrickson and her husband Bob of Stockton, Missouri; Martha Scott Curtis and her husband Blair of Madison, Georgia; and Karmi Scott Sheppard and her husband Albert of Winter Park, Florida. She cherished her 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Mary will be inurned at Mound Grove Cemetery. A private family memorial will be held at a later date. Anyone wishing to honor Mary’s life may make a contribution in her name to One Community Hospice, 15600 Woods Chapel Road, Suite A, Kansas City, MO 64139.
