Eljay Darwin Settles

Eljay Darwin Settles, 83, of Grain Valley, MO, formerly of Overland Park, KS passed away Friday, March 23, 2007 at the Rehabilitation Center of Independence. Cremation with a memorial service to be held at a later date. Eljay was born February 7, 1924 in Luther, IA to Frederick A. and Eunice A. (Davis) Settles. He graduated from East Aurora High School in Aurora, IL before proudly serving in the U.S. Navy during WWII. Mr. Settles went on to graduate from Graceland College in 1949. He was a member of the RLDS Church. Eljay taught school for several years and loved studying languages. He was fluent in French and German. Mr. Settles was also a Quality Control Inspector with the government. Eljay is survived by his siblings Veronica Datschefski, Elma Penrose, Marvin Settles, and Mary Jane Buchanan; and by a host of nieces, nephews and special friends. Mr. Settles was preceded in death by his siblings Arnold Settles, Evelyn Juhnke, Melvin "Roy� Settles, and Orpha Tatar.
