Robert Seutter

December 24, 1930 — August 25, 2017

Robert E. “Bob” Seutter, PharmD. 86, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2017.

A private service was held at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, Missouri.

Robert was born on Christmas Eve, 1930, in Kansas City, KS, to Emil and Matilda (Herpts) Seutter. He graduated from Wyandotte High School in the class of 1948. As a young boy, he had a passion for pharmacology. He worked for a local drugstore delivering prescriptions on his bicycle to local customers. His interest in the subject became his life’s devotion – he graduated 2nd on the President’s List from the University of Kansas with his Doctorate in Pharmacology in 1953. After graduation, he served in the United States Army for two years during the Korean Conflict. He married Minnie Adams, and to this union were born two children.

Bob began his career with his own drugstore (Seutter Pharmacy) in Kansas City, KS, which remained in operation for 18 years. He and his family moved to Lee’s Summit in 1970. He worked at various pharmacies throughout the area, but was the Pharmacy manager for the majority of his years with K-Mart.

Bob was truly an outstanding pharmacist. Nearly every waking hour was devoted to his career. It was his calling in life – he would often work long hours, without days off, to ensure that his customers were taken care of. He knew everyone by name, and he treated everyone like they were family. He was affectionately known as “Einstein” because of his intelligence (and, of course, his white hair). He drew customers from miles away because they knew they would be well cared for. He didn’t simply treat them as a transaction – he extensively researched their history, just to ensure their medication would not harm their health.

Bob was also a very talented guitar player. He taught himself classical guitar, and enjoyed playing to family and friends whenever he had the time.

The community has lost a fine man, and his absence will be felt by so many.

Survivors include his wife, Minnie of the home; children, Teresa Seutter of Lee’s Summit, MO and Darren Seutter (wife Linda) of Denver, CO; grandchildren, Jeremy (wife Emily), Blake (wife Lauren), Sydney, Corbin, Bethany (husband Caleb) and Brianna Padilla; great-granddaughter, Tina; brother, William Seutter (wife Karen) of Springfield, MO; and nephew, Larry Lee Bellmard of Tulsa, OK.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings.
