Mary Sexton

Mary Ellen Sexton, 83, passed away on September 4, 2014. A visitation will be held from 6-8:00pm on Tuesday, September 9, at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th Street, Independence, MO, 64055. A funeral service will be on Wednesday, September 10, at 10:00am, at the chapel. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Cemetery.

She was born to Bonnie and Mamie (Helm) Hensley on November 2, 1930 in Winston, MO. She graduated from Gallatin High School in the class of 1948. She married Billy Sexton in 1955 and had two children. She worked as a pastry cook for Truman High School for many years. In her retirement, she enjoyed volunteering, caring for seniors at Centerpoint Hospital, and spending time with her family.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 46 years; parents, brother, Troy Hensley; sister, Nina Hunt; and great-grandson, Keith Spinning.

She is survived by her two children, Greg (Jennifer) Sexton; daughter, Cheryl Johnson; 5 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
