William Jackson “Jack” Shackelford, 92, of Independence, MO passed away on October 10, 2018. Visitation will be from 1-2 pm Monday, October 15, 2018 at Speaks Suburban Chapel. Funeral services will follow at 2pm Monday at the chapel. Burial with full Military Honors will take place in Blue Springs Cemetery. Jack was born on May 30, 1926 in Independence, MO to Andrew Jackson and Alice Irene (Shrout) Shackelford. He graduated from William Chrisman High School and Great Lakes Naval Academy. Jack served as a Signalman on the USS APC 32. They were responsible for going up and down the coastline in the Asiatic Pacific Theater transporting supplies, personnel, and munitions during WWII. After returning stateside Jack went to work at the Bendix Corporation as a Quality Control Manager. He retired after 35 years of service. Jack was a member of the Englewood Church for over 60 years. 55 of those years he served as a Sunday School teacher. He was also a Deacon, Treasurer, and a founding Board Member of Englewood Christian Academy. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He was a friend to all that he met and loved sharing stories. Jack loved nothing better than attending the sports events of his children and grandchildren. You could always count on the man in the yellow shirt to coach from the bleachers! Jack also enjoyed watching sports on T.V. Survivors include: wife Mary Anne Shackelford; son Mark Shackelford (Sharon); son Tim Shackelford (Bonnie); Kent Thomas (Sherri), Kristy Riddle (Paul), Kathy Munson (Joe), Kelly Miller (Mark), and Kerry Novitski (Eric); brother Dale Shackelford (Helen); sister Gloria Taylor (Bob); 16 grandchildren: Jason Riddle, Jessi Kimbell, (Matt) James Riddle, Jeffrey Munson, Jacob Munson, Seth Thomas (Lindsey) Caleb Thomas, Luke Miller, Ethan Miller, Chase Novitski, Chad Novitski, Annaleese Novitski. Jena Rorvig (Paul) and Eric Shackelford (Amy), Nicole Shackelford, and Taylor Shackelford; 14 great grandchildren; John Gillespie, Aubrey Riddle, Alexis Riddle, David Kimbell, Sarah Kimbell, Caden Munson, Gracin Munson, Korbyn Munson, Maely Curtis, Jameson Rorvig, Camden Rorvig, Ava Shackelford, Emma Shackelford, and Jack Shackelford. A large extended family and many friends. Jack is preceded in death by parents, his 1st wife Dolores Barney Shackelford, and brother Hubert “Herb” Shackelford. In honor of Jack’s memory please wear his favorite color…yellow!
