Glenn E. Shafer , 92, of Kansas City, MO went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 25, 2010 at his home. A visitation will be held from 10-11:00 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 2, at St. Louis Catholic Church, 5930 Swope Parkway, Kansas City, MO. Burial at Forest Hill Cemetery. Glenn was born March 29, 1918 to James and Bertha Ellen (Ritchey) Shafer. He was the second of eight children. He met his wife, Anita Waitzmann through a chain letter during World War II. After writing to each other during his tour in Italy they finally met and started a courtship and marriage, lasting 65 years. They were blessed with 5 children, Glenda Cinotto (Charles), Karen Humes, Edward Shafer, Nancee Reynolds (Royce) and Douglas Shafer (Shari). Glenn was a WWII Army Veteran, earning a Silver Star, 3 Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart, European/African/Middle East Campaign, WWII Victory Medal and the American Defense Medal. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Military Order of the Purple Heart. After his time in service he was a pressman lithographer in the printing trade for 32 years. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Joseph Shafer; his sisters, Opal Smith and Francis Farthing. He is survived by his loving wife, Anita; five children; nine grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; two brothers, Wayne Shafer, Denzle Shafer (Peggy); and two sisters, Jessie Rose (Rex) and Ingaby Kelley.
