Larry Eugene Shafer, 61, of Lee’s Summit, MO passed away Saturday, April 26, 2014. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 29th at Carson Speaks Chapel. A graveside service will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 30th at Mt. Washington Cemetery, Independence, MO. Larry was born January 22, 1953 in Miami, OK to Albert Leroy and Betty Ruth (Goodell) Shafer as one of five children. He attended Northeast and William Chrisman High Schools. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and a good friend to many. Larry was a cook, metal finisher, and book binder. He was a huge rock and roll fan and passed on his love of music to his children and grandchildren. Larry was also known for being a charmer, a clean freak, and being very adept at building model cars. He will, forever, be in our hearts. Larry is survived by his best friend and former wife, Shelia Shafer; daughters, Heather Lynch of Dallas, TX; and Melissa Sokolowski and husband Jeffrey of Coppell, TX; stepdaughters, Crystal and Tina; brothers, Dennis Shafer and wife Laura of Independence, MO and Darrell Shafer of Grandview, MO; sister, Judy Wheeler and husband John of Kansas City, KS; stepsister, Georgia Boston and husband Dwain of Kansas City, MO; stepbrother, Michael Wilson of St. Joseph, MO; grandchildren, Cody, Mikayla, Alexis, Gunther, and Ella; great grandson, Felix; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Patricia Shafer; brother, Terry Shafer; aunt, Freda Linn; cousins, Angie and Greg Crafton; uncle, Bob Greaves; stepson, Billy.
