Ruth E. Sharrar, 90, of Independence, MO. passed away peacefully June 15, 2012 at Rosewood Health Center. Visitation will be held at 3:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at The Groves Community Room, 1515 W. White Oak, Independence, MO.
Ruth was born September 26, 1921 in Savanna, IL to Bertrand E. and Evanelia M. Sartwell. She completed a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing in 1944, and was married to George “Sonnie” Sharrar shortly after graduation. Her desire to help people extended from nursing to becoming a Chaplain at Independence Regional. She made it her life’s work to serve the Lord, and was a faithful member of the priesthood in the Community of Christ Church. She is survived by her two daughters, Patricia Courtney of Independence; Mary Hunter and husband Craig of Libertyville, IL; a sister, Ramona Seeley, of Warrensburg, MO; a brother Gerald Sartwell of Sacramento, CA; four grandchildren: Clay (Holly) Courtney and wife Holly; Bryan Courtney and wife Kacey; Brandon Hunter and wife Christy; and Kristan McCray and wife Erin and seven great-grandchildren.
