Belle T. Shaw, 93, of Independence, Missouri went home to the Lord on February 21, 2019. A private graveside service will be held at Mt. Washington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Independence Animal Hospital at 300 S. Noland Road, Independence, MO. 64050.
Belle lived the American Dream. Born in Omaha, Nebraska on June 12, 1925, she was the youngest of six children. She was a young girl when the family relocated to Kansas City and settled in the Northeast area near Sheffield / Armco Steel. Following Pearl Harbor, she married her sweetheart and became a mother the following year. Belle and Milton scrimped and saved to buy their first house in 1952, and were proud to pay off the mortgage ahead of schedule. In 2012, they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in that same home shortly before Milton’s death. Belle loved being a mom above everything else, and she was a very good one. She managed her household on a strict budget and a schedule with designated days for laundry, cleaning or shopping at the A & P. Somehow she could always find an extra dollar in the weekly budget for a school activity or a new pair of shoes. For many years, she baked dozens of cookies and chaperoned school trips as a room mother.
In her spare time Belle enjoyed competitive bowling leagues, her friends, travel and long walks. As she grew older, she liked sitting in her porch swing, watching the birds and hearing the distant train whistles. She loved a good piece of lemon meringue pie, never met a stranger in her life and had a soft spot for any dog she saw.
Among those who will miss her in this life are her children Dale & Jodi Shaw, Connie Van Fleet, Mary Shaw; her grandchildren David Shaw, Michelle & Tom Farkas, Jessica Shaw & Chuck Hansuld, Kristina Frye; her great grandchildren Kayce Frye, Katie Frye, Wyatt Farkas; great-great grandchild A.J.; her close relatives and friends.
