Charles E. "Gene� Sheffer, 75, of Independence, MO, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at the Medical Center of Independence. Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 am Saturday morning at Carson-Speaks Chapel followed by a short service. Interment will be in Mound Grove Cemetery.
Gene was born October 15, 1931 in Marshall, Missouri the son of Herman and Sadie (Gibson) Sheffer. Gene was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He retired as a Supervisor for the Olin Company, previously known as Remington or Lake City. Gene enjoyed doing remodeling work after his retirement. He also loved to barbecue and he and his wife Lola enjoyed traveling and taking cruises. He was married to Vida James and had three daughters and later married Lola Braby, who predeceased him on October 22, 2005.
Mr. Sheffer is survived by three daughters Sharon Sheffer of Shreveport, LA; Belinda Hicks and husband Allen Joe of Carthage, TX. and Vicky Carter, Marshall, TX; and step-daughter Billie Jo Mead of Blue Springs, MO, a sister Herma Kay Makings of Oak Grove, MO., six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, four step grandchildren and nine step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and step mother Helen Sheffer, his wife Lola and three sisters, Wilma, Alice and Norma.
