Virginia May (Lloyd) Shields, 86 of Independence, passed away on Monday, July 1, 2013 at her residence.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Visitation will be from 1-2:00 pm, Wednesday, July 3, 2013 in the funeral chapel. Burial will be in Mount Grove Cemetery in Independence, MO. Donations may be made to Eastgate Christian Church, 4010 South River Blvd. Independence, MO 64055.
Virginia was born on November 6, 1926, in Republic, MO. Married Darrell Shields in 1946. Darrell and Virginia were married for 49 years before Darrell passed away in 1996.
She graduated from Republic High School in 1945. Virginia was a member of the Christian Church for over 75 years and attended Eastgate Christian Church in Independence for the past few years. Before raising her five children, she worked as a bookkeeper at various companies. After the children started arriving, Virginia devoted her time to raising her children as well as continuing to be a devoted wife. Virginia supported the children’s and their activities by doing volunteer work at schools, church and numerous Boy Scout functions.
She is survived by her 5 children, son Daniel Shields and wife Judy of Independence, son Melvin Shields and wife Melinda, daughter Barbara Ball and husband Darrell, son Bruce Shields, and daughter Beverly Shields-Lutes and her husband Rusty; 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; two sisters, Carol Jo Finley, Fayetteville, AR; and Annabelle Little, Seattle, WA; and one brother, Harold Don Lloyd, Republic; and many other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by one sister, Reba Ward.
