Ruth M. Shipley, 81, Independence, MO passed away Aug. 22, 2012. A memorial service will begin at 4 pm, Sat., Aug. 25 at Good Shepherd Community of Christ, 4341 Blue Ridge Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64133. Visitation will begin at 3 pm before the service at the church. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to Hospice Care of the Midwest, 4731 S. Cochise Drive, Independence, MO 64055.
Ruth was born June 8, 1931 in Independence and was a lifelong resident. She graduated from William Chrisman High School in the Class of 1949 before earning an Associate degree at Graceland College. She worked in the Admissions Dept. at Independence Regional Hospital for eighteen years and retired in 1996. She was a Past President of the Independence Optimist Club and Independence Meals on Wheels. She also gave tours at the Community of Christ Temple. She was a charter member of Good Shepherd Community of Christ where she also served as organist. She was a member for the Messiah Choir for over forty years. After her retirement she enjoyed traveling the world, reading and was a avid sports fan.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Martin Shipley; brothers Wayne Zion, Arlie Zion; sisters Alice Buckley, Mae Bunten and Audrey Chapman. She is survived by daughter Barbara Eidson and husband John, Lincoln, MO; son William Shipley; Robert Shipley and wife Sharon, all of Independence, MO; Alan Shipley, and wife Kim, Arvada, CO; Kenneth Shipley, Independence, MO; eleven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
