Shirley Irene Irwin, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on May 18, 2024, in Kansas City, Missouri. She was born on September 27, 1932, in California, Missouri, to her parents, Theodore and Martha (Barry) Toler.
Shirley attended and graduated from East High School. Shirley's professional journey was marked by diligence and a strong work ethic. Her tenure at the license bureau was characterized by precision and care in assisting countless individuals with their needs. Following her retirement from the license bureau, Shirley continued to serve her community at the election board. Shirley was known for her vibrant personality. Described as spunky, ornery, and possessing a great sense of humor, she brought joy and laughter wherever she went. Her independence and unwavering determination were admired by many, but it was her profound love for her family that truly defined her essence. Shirley’s greatest joy and sense of pride in her life was her children and grandchildren. Shirley cherished the relationships she cultivated over the years. From her early friendships formed during high school to the bonds with her Sunday School class, she loved time with her friends, especially over a game of dominoes. Her unwavering faith in the Lord was the cornerstone of her life. She found purpose as an active member of Sycamore Hills Baptist Church and enjoyed being a part of the church choir. Shirley's ability to connect with others was one of her most endearing qualities.
Shirley is preceded in passing by her parents; Theodore and Martha (Barry) Toler, her children; Michael Gulotta and Terri Snethen, and her siblings; Layton Toler, Harold Toler, Bob Toler, Don Toler, Doris Richardson, Mary Ault, and baby Earl Patrick Toler. Her legacy lives on through her children; Victoria "Vicki" Domeny, Anthony "Tony" Gulotta (Kari), her daughter-in-law; Virginia "Ginny" Gulotta, her son-in-law; Jeff Snethen, 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
A visitation will be held on May 30, 2024, at Speaks Suburban Chapel in Independence, Missouri, from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM followed by a Funeral Service at 10:30 AM. A graveside service will immediately follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery. All who knew Shirley are invited to pay their respects and celebrate the life of this remarkable woman.
