Ruth was born January 24, 1927 in Hummels Warfe, PA as one of five children to Fred N. and Helen (Wolff) Niedig. After school, she worked for a short time as a manager for a manufacturing plant as part of the war effort, but soon married and became a devoted wife and mother. Ruth married James C. Shissler on December 23, 1945. They raised six children, moving every few months as an Air Force family. She cared deeply for her family and also enjoyed painting landscapes and growing flowers. Ruth is remembered as that sweet shy lady at church, at the garden club, or playing bingo at the nursing home. She will surely be missed.
She is survived by husband, James; daughters, Judith McLaughlin (Craig Pierce) of Los Cruces, NM; Nancy Taylor (James) of Kansas City, MO; Ruth Burri (Ron) of Pleasant Hill, MO; and Theresa Murrell (“D”) of Jefferson City, MO; son, James F. Shissler of Kansas City, MO; sister, Grace Chapel and brother, Phillip Niedig both of Lebanon, PA; nine grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brother, Paul Niedig; son, Darrall Shissler; and grandchildren, Keri Taylor, Michael Burri, and Jeremiah Shissler. The family encourages contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association in her memory. Online condolences may be expressed at www.speakschapel.com (Arrangements: Speaks Suburban Chapel 816-373-3600)
