Betty Shockley, 84, of Independence, MO passed away Saturday, February 13, 2016. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 from 6-7:30 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 7:30 p.m. at Speaks Suburban Chapel 18020 E. 39th St, Independence, MO, 64055. Interment will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Shirley Cemetery in Mint Hill, MO. Betty was born January 27, 1932 in Lexington, MO to Hubert and Mary Smith. She worked as a school teacher for the Independence School District and enjoyed helping people in any way that she could. She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church and enjoyed spending time with her many friends, including the ladies in PEARLS. Betty loved knitting, cooking, people, but most of all she loved her family. She will be remembered by her daughter Jill Karr of Independence, MO; sons Jeff Shockley and wife Lisa of Des Moines, IA, David Shockley and wife Debby of Warsaw, MO, and Andrew Shockley and wife Stacy of Lees Summit, MO; a sister Brenda Hausman of Gaithersburg, MD; 9 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren. Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert in 2002. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
