Sherman M. Shockley, 89 of Independence, MO, passed away Friday, September 6, 2013 at his residence. Sherman was born October 30, 1923 in Hodge, MO to William Everett and Effie (Franklin) Shockley. His father died at an early age and his mother remarried Levert Page who helped raise Sherman. Sherman proudly served in the US Navy in the Pacific theatre during WWII. He worked at Armco 34 years, retiring in 1985. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Independence and the Steelworker’s Union. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Laura Shockley; his four children, Larry Shockley, Cherry DeWeese, Kelly Shockley and wife Robin, Keith Shockley and wife Laura all of Independence, MO; a brother, Dale Page of Holden, MO; a sister, Irene Fiene of Blackburn, MO; 8 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Aus Shockley and a sister, Noma Shivers. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, September 9 at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Carson-Speaks chapel. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens.
