Thomas M. “Tom” Shoemaker, passed away far too soon on December 20, 2022. He was 60 years old. A visitation will be held from 1-2pm on Friday, January 6th with a service following at 2pm, both at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E 39th St.; Independence, MO 64055. Interment will follow at Mt. Washington Cemetery in Independence.
Tom was born on November 25, 1962, in Brookfield, MO to Thomas L. and Sharon (Teeter) Shoemaker. Soon after attending Ft. Osage High School, Tom began a successful career spanning over 40 years. He started out in the heavy equipment business starting at a young age working with his father and brother. He then worked for Midwest Remediation Inc. as a Field Superintendent from 1995 through 2005. Tom had many skills and continued in the environmental construction industry for the majority of his career. Tom had many certifications in the environmental industry. In the interim, he was an over-the-road truck driver for the United States Post Office. Then he and his brother started Metro-Wide Resources where he served as President and worked alongside his son, Thomas. He continued driving a truck for Eagle Trucking delivering mail for the USPS.
Most importantly, Tom loved with his whole heart, loving his family more than anything. His love for his mother, father, siblings, children and grandchildren was massive. He always did anything he could to help others. His heart was huge. He lived life to its fullest, loved to laugh and crack jokes. We were all blessed to have known him.
Tom is preceded in death by his father, Thomas L. “Sonny” Shoemaker.
He is survived by the love of his life and life partner, Theresa Vaughn; his mother, Sharon K. Allen; daughter, Dana (Mike) Shoemaker-Welsh; son, Thomas Shoemaker; grandchildren, Vivienne, Bennett and Claire Welsh, and Caylee Shoemaker; siblings, Steve Shoemaker, Shelby Newberry and Ryan Allen; nieces and nephews, Alex, Drew and June Shoemaker, Cassie Shoemaker, and Harper Allen.
