Vaughn Vernon Short, 90, Kansas City, died March 29, 2005, at Independence Regional Hospital, Mr. Short was born October 8, 1914, in Independence, Mo, to June A. Short, Sr. and Mildred K. Short. He was an Army Infantry veteran of WW II. He was a lifelong member of the Stone Church congregation of the Community of Christ Church. He worked for 5 years at the old Ford Motor Co Plant in Kansas City, Missouri. He owned Superior Metal Products Company and was an owner of many Commercial properties in Independence. He was a member and Commander of Disabled American Veterans, the Trench Rats, American Legion Post 21, the Raytown Sertoma International, very active and Past President of the Association of Industrial Development of the Independence Chamber of Commerce. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and piloted his own airplanes for many years. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite bodies and a Member of Ararat Shrine Temple. His survivors include his son, Stephen Vaughn Short, Kansas City, three grandchildren, two great-grandsons, two brothers, William L. Short, Arlington, Texas, June A. Short, Jr., Independence, and a sister, Mrs. Marialice Short Scott, Dallas, Texas. Visitation will be from 7 - 8:30 pm, Thu, Mar 31, 2005 at the Carson-Speaks Chapel, 1501 W. Lexington Ave. Indep., MO. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Fri, Apr 1, 2005 at Mound Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Shiners Children�s Hospital, in care of Ararat Shrine, 5100 Ararat Dr., Kansas City, MO.,64129.
