Vernon Lloyd Short, 79 of Independence, MO passed away Thursday, January 26, 2023 at Redwood of Carmel Hills. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055 with burial to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m., until service time Wednesday at the chapel. Vernon was born January 24, 1944 in Kansas City, MO to Vernon and Sarah (Bailey) Short. He had worked for nearly 30 years as an office clerk for the GSA in Kansas City until he retired in 2010. He enjoyed the Boy Scouts and was a longtime member for over 30 years. Vernon is survived by; His wife, Kathryn Short; 2 sons, Kenneth Short and Karl Short both of Independence, MO and a brother, Richard Short of St. Joseph, MO.
