Salvatore Vincent “Sal” Shortino, 84 of Kansas City, MO passed away Friday, May 12, 2017 at the Kansas City Hospice House. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at St. Mark’s Catholic Church 3736 S Lee's Summit Rd, Independence, MO 64055 with burial to follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. There will be a rosary recited at 5:00 p.m., followed by family visitation until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday evening at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Sal was born October 21, 1932 in Kansas City, MO to Vincent and Lena (Oliver) Shortino and has been a lifelong area resident. He owned and operated the Piggly Wiggly on Stadium Dr. for a number of years until he retired in 1998. He proudly served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed traveling and was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church. Survivors include; his loving wife of 61 years, Donna of the home; 2 daughters, Diana Shortino of Independence, MO and Susan Jones and husband Greg of Lee’s Summit, MO; a son, Larry Shortino and wife Sharon of Lee’s Summit, MO; a brother, Carl Shortino and wife Diane of Leawood, KS; 4 grandchildren, Ryan (Mandy), Michael (Aubrey), Matthew and Sara and 3 great grandchildren, Brooklyn, Boston and Brock.
