Durwood was born Jesse Durwood Shrout, Jr. on December 8, 1929 in Grain Valley, MO and lived his life in rural Jackson County. Durwood is preceded in death by his wife, Alma Gaunt Shrout, his parents, Jesse and Georgia Shrout, and his sister and brother-in-law, Jewell Jean and Calvin Smith. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Connie and Jesus Roman, and his grandchildren, Matthew and Rebecca Roman, of Blue Springs; his nephews and their spouses, Jerry and Pam Shrout, Tom and Marcia Shrout, Don and Betty Jean Smith, Rick Smith, and Larry and Barbara Gaunt; his niece and her spouse, Tina and Bryan Rushton; and a large extended family. Durwood was a farmer. He lived a simple life centered on the land, hard work and family. He started farming with horses and sowed his last fields this spring. He epitomized the "family farm. A good day was any day he got to drive his tractor. He usually had a twinkle in his eye and a story to tell. He married his high school sweetheart and cared for her throughout her decline into dementia. He died peacefully in his sleep, as he would say "my heart just give out.
