Ralph E. Shull

Ralph Shull, 91, beloved father and grandfather of Independence, MO passed away March 1, 2016. A Military graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 7, at Woodlawn Cemetery. The family requests no flowers. Contributions can be made to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, the Groves Community Hospice, or an American Legion. He was born on February 17, 1925 in Miami, MO, the fourth child of Willie and Jennie (Sanders) Shull. He was raised in the Saline County area until enlisting in the Army during WWII. Ralph served his country in the 91st Division. He and his comrades were engaged in combat in the Po River Valley in Northern Italy. He was very proud to be a veteran. Upon returning to the states he met his wife, Marjorie LaRue. They were married September 20, 1945 and made their home in Independence, MO. They were married 62 years. They have one daughter, Patricia Copeland of Independence, MO. Ralph worked in the sheet metal department for Allis-Chambers (originally Gleaner Combine Co.), retiring as lead man in the department. He had been a member of the sheet metal union. Coon hunting was a passion. He raised coon dogs and hunted frequently. He was a member of the American Kennel Club. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; two brothers; and four sisters. He is survived by his daughter, Patricia of Independence; two grandchildren, Darren Copeland (Liz) of Lee’s Summit and Jennifer Wolff (David) of Shawnee, KS; three great-grandchildren, Drew Copeland, Abby and Hannah Wolff, who were his pride and joy; as well as his sister Agnes Newton of Marshall and nieces and nephews.
