SHULTZ-HAMPTON, Sheryl Lynn Marie, 58, passed away at home on February 5, 2015, surrounded by friends and family. “Sherri,” as everyone knew her, was born on April 29, 1956, in Kansas City, Kan. In a life that ended far too soon, Sherri gave much more than she received. An intrepid shopper, she delighted at the prospect of brightening someone’s day with a thoughtful gift, regardless of whether there was an occasion to celebrate. Sherri’s generosity, and not her illness, defined her final months. She confronted cancer in the same way she conducted the rest of her life: with an extraordinary grace. And she managed to show us just what that word, “grace,” truly means—meeting adversity with hope; spending more time consoling than seeking consolation; finding positivity where no one else could; and being thankful for the adventure, with no questions, no regrets. Her greatest gift was simply sharing her life with ours, and we will be eternally grateful for that. Sherri was preceded in death by her mother, Jan Kiger; father, Richard Delich; and a brother, Jay Delich. She is survived by her husband, Rodney Hampton of Independence, Mo.; daughter, Sarah Lynn (Stanley) Thresher, of Independence; granddaughters, Stevie, Skyla, and Sydney, of Independence; sister, Cathy (Speed) Marriott, of Overland Park, Kan.; brother, Rick (Theresa) Delich, of North Kansas City, Mo.; nieces, Ashley (Chris) Borniger of Wichita, Kan., Mandy (Kyle) McKinley, of Bonner Springs, Kan., and Anna Delich, of Kansas City, Kan.; nephews, Bryan (Lyndsay) Marriott of Prairie Village, Kan., and Adam Delich and Alex Delich, of North Kansas City. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 13, at Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence. Graveside funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 14 at Oak Ridge Memorial Gardens, 18301 Salisbury Road, Independence. Following the funeral service, a celebration of life will be held at VFW Post 1000, 1002 E. U.S. Highway 24, Independence. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kansas City Hospice & Palliative Care (call 816-363-2600, e-mail development@kchospice.org, or visit www.kansascityhospice.org).
