William I. “Bill” Shultz, Jr., 88, of Independence, MO, passed away, Monday, August 18, 2014 at Rosewood Health Center. Services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 22, 2014 at the Speaks Suburban Chapel, 18020 E. 39th St., Independence, MO 64055. Burial will follow in Oak Ridge Memory Gardens. The family will greet friends from 1:00 p.m., until service time Friday at the chapel. Donations may be made in his name to the Groves Community Hospice. Bill was born September 23, 1925 in Louisiana, MO to William I. Shultz, Sr. and Minnie O. (Green) Shultz. He worked as a mail sorter for the Terminal Railway Company at Union Station for a number of years. He proudly served in the US Marine Corps in WWII and the Korean Conflict where he was awarded the Purple Heart for his service. He enjoyed fishing and baseball. He was a member of Rockwood Baptist Church. He is survived by 3 siblings, Jean Matlock and her husband John of Independence, MO, John Shultz and wife Nancy of Lee’s Summit, MO and George Shultz and his wife Beverly of Independence, MO. He was preceded in death by his father William I. Shultz, Sr., in 1991, his step mother, who raised him from an early age, Georgia A. Shultz in 2006 and a sister, Opal Smith in 1992.
