Jennifer Shuman

Jennifer Ann Dorton-Shuman of Independence, MO was born Aug. 26, 1978 and died Sept. 24, 2012. She graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1996. She was a fighter from day one, as she was born with heart complications that gave her little chance to see her first birthday. But this didn’t stop her from enjoying life, singing, dancing and enjoying time with family and friends. In 2006, she was the recipient of a heart transplant at Saint Luke’s Hospital.
Jennifer is survived by daughter Kayla Shuman; parents James and Laura Dorton, all of Independence, MO grandmother Ernestine Dorton, Whitehouse, TN; brothers James Dorton, Jr., Independence, MO; Charles Dorton, Avon, IN; Samuel Dorton, Independence, MO; sister Diana Dorton, Blue Springs, MO: many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10 am, Sat., Sept. 29 at the Salvation Army Corps, 14700 E Truman Rd., Independence, MO 64050. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to the St. Luke’s Mid- America Heart Institute, 4401 Wornall Rd., Kansas City, MO 64111.
