Lorna Ethelyn Simmons, 93, Independence, MO passed away Sunday, September 21, 2014.
Lorna was born August 18, 1921 in Ft. Collins, CO the daughter of Clifford C. and Ethel Edna (Brolliar) Cable. She received her Associates Degree from Graceland College and her B.A. in Education from Central Missouri State University. Lorna taught elementary education for over 25 years, retiring from the Independence School District. She was a member of the Blue Ridge and Stone Church Community of Christ Congregations. Lorna enjoyed art, music and being with her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Simmons in 1995; one brother; five sisters; and her parents.
Survivors include her sons, Wm. Mark Simmons and wife Janice; Lawrence Simmons; grandchildren, Benjamin and Justin Simmons, and Sara Powell; two great grandchildren; sister, Letha Cook; and numerous nieces, nephews, and family.
Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at Carson-Speaks Chapel 1501 W. Lexington Ave., Independence, MO 64052. Funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 25, 2014 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Mound Grove Cemetery.
